Joseph Wahl Paintings

Welcome to my current portfolio of paintings. These are works on canvas, wood panel and paper that I have done over the last few years. They are all mediums including oil, acrylic, oil crayon and charcoal. My new large-scale oil paintings are bold and strong, vibrating with reserved tension. The compositions give the illusion of deep space while at the same time holding the viewer at the surface of the canvas. Tactile yet airy, the paintings are strong visual statements.

Joseph Wahl was born in Los Angeles, California in 1960.  He graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He also attended the College of Creative Studies in Santa Barbara where he studied with Charles Garabedian, Tom Wudl and John Mckracken. Wahl then completed his studies at the Universita’ di belli arti in Venice, Italy where he studied with the well know abstract expressionist Emilio Vedova. After returning from Italy, Wahl has pursued his art career in Los Angeles. Wahl currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
